My signature is from an American ad campaign for McDonald's. The people who came up with it didn't understand what "I'd hit it" actually meant. It was quickly pulled after people complained. Imagine that, people didn't want to see a guy talk about how he'd have sex with a hamburger. :rollin

My avatar is from the 1990's European ad campaign for McDonald's "Tomato Grand" burger. At first glance, you might think, what's the big deal about a tomato? But McDonald's isn't known for using tomatoes (unlike Wendy's and Burger King). The ads featured a male and female model dressed like Ronald (sans make-up, thank god) and posing in completely ridiculous pseudo "high fashion" ways. Absurd. :D

Like whoa... 8O That's one hellacious sandwich! And what happened to the Japanese not wanting to have diets that are like the Americans, where we become engulfed in trans and saturated fat and become the most obese nation on the planet? *sigh*

And slowly, the Japanese become like most Americans. Not saying I have something against Americans (since I am American!) but I used to envy their healthy lifestyles...

And from earlier, you pervos!!! :P

Ha! I wonder if MOS Burger will come up of a Japanese equivalent.

I love the Pokemon commercial, Robo. I want a Larvitar! Why do all the cool toys go to Japan while we're left with dipsy Madame Alexander toys?

I found another interesting Pokemon commercial for you as well. It beats my Sailormoon "Potato Supo" commercial hands down -

It puts the "E" in Pokemon.

I like double quarter pounders. I don't eat fast food much, but when I do, it comes with supersized fries and a supersized drink ! :D

I forgot how long ago I was in Los Angeles, but I had Rally's, loved their heart stopping 3 stacked burger and bucket curly fries w/ a huge soda. I finished it, but almost died...

boy, it was good lol

Well, it's very common for a culture to mimic or become interested in the social practices of other cultures. As China and Korea become wealthier, citizens are frequenting internet cafes, eating junk food (especially traditional American junk food) and buying more expensive clothes and things. There's more interest in material goods and less interest in personal health. Thus causing an increase in the instances of obesity and diabetes in those countries.

No country has the ideal diet. While Asian diets are known to be low in fat, they are also dangerously high in sodium and the absence of dairy leads to osteoporosis being very common among Asians. Almost all Asians are lactose intolerant for this reason. High sodium may not effect their blood pressure because their body is designed to tolerate it, but when you introduce this diet to a non-Asian person, you get problems. Someone unable to break down the sodium will result in high blood pressure.

When you sample a diet from a country or region you are not native from, there are bound to be dangerous side effects. The same thing happened to Native Americans here, as settlers took their land. The original Native American diet was phased out and their health degenerated significantly. Obesity and diabetes are major problems for the N.A. community today and they are also known to be lactose intolerant.

American junk food looks like a luxury to those unable to afford it. So, when given the opportunity, these people will jump at the chance to indulge. Another thing to consider is how the food is prepared. Palm oil is extremely common in Asian countries, but Americans will not use it. Palm oil is dangerously high in saturated fat but it's a cheaper oil. Check almost any Asian snack from the market and palm oil will probably be listed as an ingredient.

Personally, I don't like junk food all that much. I eat McDonalds about six times a year, if that. Usually, I get a jones for their sausage/egg muffin, or their chicken nuggets. I do have a daily Subway habit. I use my prep period and go to a local Subway with a friend to get their six inch club sandwich for lunch(less than 300 calories). I personally don't see anything wrong with junk food or fast food. I think it's our priorities that are screwed up. Having a big mac and fries for dinner every night is not going to kill you. It's when you have two double QP's and a super size fries and a tub of soda that will end up doing you in. We have a serious gluttony problem in this country, and it's sad that were are passing it on to other cultures.

I don't eat subway because of the health code violations our small town one has.

A co-worker's daughter worked there and he quickly told everone here to stop eating there. At night they don't refrigerate their sandwich stuffs they just syran wrap the top of the containers on the sandwich making counter and call it good for the night. Among other things...

I prefer Quiznos anyhow :D

This is a misleading statement because having take out every night for dinner is a dangerous thing. Fast food should be eaten, at most, twice a week. Really, it shouldn't be eaten at all for a completely healthy diet. And every single night is certainly not acceptable.

The sodium, preservatives, saturated fats and other things derived from how the food is prepared is not healthy. Fast food restaurants are out to save money and the cheapest prep methods call for the most unhealthy products. You'll never see a place like McDonald's cooking with olive oil because, while exceedingly good for your health, olive oil is also extremely expensive.

McDonald's premium salads are also painfully high in sodium and fat. So, even something that seems healthy is, in actuality, not healthy at all. This is true for lots of places tho, not just McDonald's. Just because something is made with "all white meat chicken" doesn't mean it's not battered and deep fried, raising the saturated fat content of something that would otherwise be healthy. Ultimately, it's always better to control the preparation of the food you eat. In other words, cook for yourself as much as possible. If you know every step taken in preparing the food, then you can say with confidence the dish is good for your health. Otherwise, there will always be doubt.

Don't always rely on the calories to indicate what's good for you and what's not. Look for "nutrient dense" foods. Things high in vitamins and minerals. Calories won't tell you much. For instance, let's pretend an apple has more calories than a donut. If you ate the donut, based on this information alone, then you're making a bad choice. The apple, even if it had more calories, would be better for you because of the nutritional content. Nuts are known to be high in calories, but they are perhaps the best food you can eat. Not only do they help prevent colon cancer and cardiovascular problems, they are wonderful sources of vitamins and protein. They make you feel full, which makes them an ideal snack.

The biggest problem in this country is total ignorance about food. It's amazing how little people actually know about what is healthy and unhealthy. Diet fads and dangerous trends don't help matters much either.

SUPER SIZE IT!

I think we should try an experiment and see if it does kill us?

I haven't seen the Super Size It movie... but I've heard about the results and wouldn't want to try to find out if it's true.

It's not misleading at all. I never said having take out every night wouldn't do you harm. What I said was that having a BIG MAC AND FRIES would not kill you. In fact, it will equal around 800 calories total, about half of which is from fat. If you live a fairly active lifestyle and keep yourself moving on a daily basis, there is no reason whatsoever to believe that having a burger and fries every night is dangerous. I've seen Super Size Me as well, and I've taken nutrition courses in child development. The problem that persists is that people are overeating and not moving around enough. In point of fact, you could eat anything you want in life if you are just willing to be an active person and burn off those calories.
