Ziggy was an infamous rival bidder on YJ:

Here's one of the surviving posts about him: :D

It's Lent, and anyhow funds that in previous years went to "May Madness" savings funds now are going toward easing the transition when I move from salary to retirement. So I'm not browsing auctions at all. "Wishlists" may appear and disappear this month; I'm not aware. But I'm happy that when I was solvent and had money to set aside, I learned to use it wisely, in focused bursts of spending.
I think I am the opposite. I would rather know what I missed even when I don't get there fast enough to get it.

I just never assume that I'm going to win something. If something looks too good to be true, I just assume I'm not going to win it. I assume someone is going to swoop in and outbid me at the last moment. So when I lose something I'm not as disappointed. And I always leave the possibility of me being able to bid my max.

If I give up before reaching my max it was because of my own decision and if I bid my max and lose well...I didn't seriously expect to win it anyway. I wanted to win it, but that's the way it goes. If I get too frustrated with it then I just give up on the series (as I did with Rurouni Kenshin, PSME, etc) and then just move onto another series that I like.

Life's too short for me to get frustrated over something like that. There's plenty of other anime in the sea even when I'm never able to win artwork that I want (for the price) from certain shows that I like (as was the case with those Sentimental Journey bkg cels) :^^:

Spoken like a true addict in recovery, the first couple of days of not looking are the hardest. After that, it's easy. It's so easy that you'll get to the point you forget to look.

I missed out on a wishlist because I was slow to the dealer's site. But patience is what is needed most of all in this hobby. 5 years later, that wishlist is sitting in my gallery. :evil2

Ah, so Ziggy is a Japanese collector I take, whom which many pieces disappeared to. Well glad to see he's retired ^w^

I'm kind of the same way, I have to look. I would much rather know what happened to it, how much it went for etc. I'm still trying so hard to keep away from this cel. I'm realy close to giving in and using my "car" money that I've been saving to get my first car. But I know that in the reality of things the car will mean more and do me more good. Though it may not last as long lol.

Thanks everyone for coming out and posting!

Thank you, seeing as before I started looking for this cel people said it didn't pop up often I'm a little more lighthearted as I've seen 5 pop up since then! There is still 295 out there, so I'm still hopeful. In the meantime I'm gonna go into wishlist saving overdrive. Lol

Labels go by posts if I'm not mistaken. Seems after all these years Aethel has only made 21 posts....unless the counter went bonkers

Almost every time this site overloads and is reincarnated from a previously saved version, the post counts go back to their previous state, too. :D

He's still around. A month or two ago he outbid me on some Mezzo stuff (but was later outbid himself)

But he doesn't seem to have as much of a prescence as he used to. Maybe he's got everything he wanted?

I hear ya. Been there many times. So instead of buying many cels that I may not really want, I try to save for the few that I love. Before buying anything, I will ask myself if I will regret it.

It is a bit hard at first because there's an 'itch' to buy if I don't do so for too long. It's ok now but the craving to browse is still there :) It's better to know what you miss in case it pops up again in the future, with this hobby, you never know!

That's probably right... I joined anime beta back in 04, but went into cel collecting hibernation almost immediately after that.. up until a few months ago.

I know how that feels....I lost a beautiful set of Nadja sketches about (maybe 2 years ago???? to a dealer?) Little did I know that this set had GEMS in there, and now the seller is selling one by one on ebay ;_;...The best ones are in someone's gallery...Maybe one day I can raise enough to buy them off of her.....

And then I lost beautiful Ouran Host Club sketches....but heck they ended at like $600 (the first sequences where the characters look angelic...)But with luck I ended up getting a few beautiful shots, cuter than those shots :)

I guess the rule is that we all have more than 100 wishlist items, some that we know of, some that come to use when we see them, we can't get them all, but darn it we can try.....

Heck I lost 2 Conan Ed cels....I won one about three weeks ago....
And today I found out I won another one (similar sequence 0_o) WTF????
And for less than the other one....neither with sketches....(Don't you hate it when they separate the sketch and cel to sell separately >_<)

So I wish you luck in getting those shots...and that the YEN rate keeps on climbing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :jump

So sorry to hear that, anytime I hear a story like this I relate because I went through many ups and downs (mostly downs) waiting for my dream cel. However, when I finally got that break I needed all the disappointment was worth it. I was absolutely over-joyed.

I never buy cels unless it's something I will forever cherish. That's how I avoid this sort of heartbreak, best advice anyone can give is to put the money aside and just wait for that one special cel and it will come. I missed so many wishlists before I got it so it really does pay off.

And I promise that sometime in the future, the sadness you feel like right now will be nothing compared to the happiness you experience when you get your ultimate wish. If saving $1000 gets me one cel I have always wanted instead of spending $500 on good cels that aren't as special to me and then missing out gets me the cel I would do that for sure. About two years I went through that but I'd do it again, and to be honest I would have spent twice that if I had to. I'd of given anything.

Just learn from it and I guarantee you will get another shot when you are ready.

Very sage advice! I know that getting this cel eventually one day will be all that and a cinammon melt from McDonalds lol. I do treasure all my cels and they all make me smile but I do wish I'd skipped now and then. Thank you all for your relateable stories, it eases the heart-ache a bit more ^w^
